Tibetan Prayer Flags  $14.95

The origin of printing prayer flags in Tibet is said to date back to the 11th century. The hanging of prayer flags is thought to promote good fortune and to dispel danger. Along with traditional prayers printed in Tibetan script for peace, happiness and well-being, images may include protective animals such as the Windhorse, Snow Lion, Dragon, Garuda (a bird-like creature) and Tiger, as well as important deities such as Buddha and Tara.  The five flag colors represent the five elements: Blue - Infinite Space, White - Air, Red - Fire, Green - Water, and Yellow - Earth. These flags are made by Tibetans in a traditional manner.  They fade gracefully when hung outdoors.  Because the symbols and prayers are considered sacred, please treat them respectfully.  When disposing of old flags, please burn them.

  •  Tibetan Nuns Project Tara Prayer Flags - Established in 1987, the TNP in Dharamsala, India provides housing, health care, education and freedom of religious practice for the hundreds of Tibetan nuns fleeing from Chinese persecution in Tibet.  Over 600 nuns are now supported by the TNP.  The goals of this project include: preserving Tibetan culture and religious traditions, improving health and living conditions of Tibetan nuns in exile, providing both traditional and modern education for Tibetan women, and establishing self-sufficient Buddhist nunneries.  A portion of each purchase is contributed to the TNP.  In addition to traditional imagery, this flag also contains text with an homage to Tara, the Goddess who grants all wishes.  Imported by Tibet Collection, member of the Fair Trade Federation.  (each flag is about 5"x7")

  •  Gu-Chu-Sum Windhorse Prayer Flags - The Gu-Chu-Sum Movement of Tibet was established in India in 1991 by former political prisoners from Tibet.  Through a range of fundraising programs, Gu-Chu-Sum provides food, shelter, financial help and psychological support to former prisoners of conscious who have escaped Chinese oppression into exile.  Goals include campaigning for the release of incarcerated Tibetan political prisoners, reporting on political prisoners in Tibet and bringing awareness about Human Rights, and facilitating basic housing, medical care, education and financial support to former politicl prisoners in exile.  A portion of each purchase is contributed to this program.  Made with a traditional hand printed woodblock design.  Imported by Tibet Collection, member of the Fair Trade Federation.  (each flag is about 9"x9")
